Research time!

It really is frustrating to talk to people outside academia about my work at this time of year: they seem to think I have six weeks holiday with no work to do whatsoever! This couldn’t be further from the truth; an academic’s work merely enters a different phase in July and August but it certainly can’t be counted as holiday.

Networking online: how to start?

I think we all agree that the internet is an incredibly useful educational tool (albeit with some serious problems connected to its use). And we are definitely aware that it is a key tool for jobseekers; this is why we are all visitors to www.jobs.ac.uk However, what’s more controversial is whether the internet is a useful networking tool for academics.
