Poland Country Profile - Education System

School education is divided into primary school lasting for 6 years, lower secondary school (which you take an exam to enter at 13) and then upper school, which can be either a lyceum or a technikum. At the end of secondary school, students take a Maturity Exam and if they pass this, students can then go on to Higher Education if they wish. At all levels of education students are graded every semester using a numerical system.

Since 2005 Higher Education is partly state run and partly private. There are many different sorts of institution, such as technical schools, agricultural schools and subject-based institutions. Most subjects apart from Law and Medicine can be studied at three levels Bachelor, Master and Doctor.
