Buses and taxis are the main forms of transport in Macau. Buses are frequent and cheap. Many hotels also run their own shuttle buses connecting the city to the ferry port or the Chinese border. Taxis are also plentiful and have a destination guide in Portuguese, English and Cantonese to help passengers overcome the language barrier.
There are currently no railway lines or light railway metro systems in Macau.
Ferry transport is very important especially between Hong Kong and Macau. There are over 100 services running per day. It is also possible to hire a helicopter for the journey between the two destinations.
Macau airport was built in 1995 and runs services to other major cities in East Asia such as Singapore, Beijing and Bangkok.
