The high speed rail network connects Belgium with France and the Netherlands and was nationally run until 2005 when the company was split into two. Most of the track is electrified. The services are cheap and frequent, and the trains efficient and modern.
Belgium used to be covered by a tram network, but now trams only exist in major cities such as Brussels, Ghent and Antwerp.
Roads are managed by local authorities which means that road signs can appear in either Dutch or French, which can be confusing for tourists.
Seaports are important for Belgian tourism and commerce. Antwerp is one of the largest ports in the world and Bruges-Zeebrugge is one of the largest in Europe. There are also a number of canals which are still used commercially.
Belgium has five public passenger airports. These are Brussels, Ostend, Brussels-South Charleroi, Liege and Antwerp.
