Croatia Country Profile - Travel

There are five international airports in Croatia, the largest of which are Zagreb and Dubrovnik. There are a number of low cost airlines flying into the country and this has triggered a growth in tourism in the last decade.

There are several major railway routes, all starting in Zagreb, but the railways are in need of modernisation, with little updating done since the fall of Yugoslavia. Few routes are electric or high speed. The only route to use modern tilting trains is the Zagreb-Split line.

However, road transport in Croatia is modern and safe, among the best in Europe. In the last decade a number of motorways have been constructed or updated. The road network links the country with its neighbours in Slovenia, Serbia and Hungary. Buses are a cheap and popular of getting around the country.

There are several vital seaports and Croatia is also on the Danube, with a port at Vukovar.
