Ireland’s railways are state owned and link Belfast and Dublin, and other major towns and cities of the Republic. There are suburban rail systems in Dublin and others planned for Galway, Cork and Limerick.
The road network links Dublin with all other parts of the country. Unlike many countries you have to drive on the left. Irish buses are a national run system, apart from privately owned airport shuttle bus services.
Ferry ports bring a significant amount of tourist and business passengers to Ireland, although cheap airlines are reducing the numbers each year.
There are four international airports in Ireland: Dublin, Shannon, Cork and Knock. The national carrier Aer Lingus operates services to Europe, Africa and North America.
