Hungary Country Profile - Travel

Hungary has a flourishing railway system which connects the largest towns with one another and also links the country with Austria. Budapest has three main railway stations and also has an underground and a metro system. Hungary also boasts the busiest tramline in the world (route 5/6) along which trams pass every 90 seconds. 

The country has a number of motorways linking Budapest with the rest of the country, these are continuously being improved. Inland waterways are important to Hungary as the nation is landlocked, Budapest is the largest port. 

There are a number of airports, the most important being in Budapest and at Lake Balaton, the country’s main tourist attraction.
