University of Glasgow

When I saw the place for the first time, I just felt in love with the place

Within about ten minutes of being in my interview, I knew I was going to come if I was offered the job

It has a fantastic reputation

It's a very prestigious university, and it's a large university

I knew that there is great research going on in Glasgow, and that brought me here

It's very demanding, intellectually challenging, but it's a fun place to work as well

Full of young people, particularly the west end where the university is

Glaswegians surely set the standard when it comes to friendliness, it's a great place for a young family

It is a vibrant place, there's no doubt about that

Glasgow is a very well connected city, both within the UK, but also for international travel and that's very important

We've got an international airport that flies you pretty much anywhere in the world

Some tremendous outdoor facilities, lakes, lochs

Scotland's first national park, Loch Lomond and the Trossacks

It's very easy to escape to some really wild places

Glasgow is striving to be one of the best universities in the world

From the outside you have lovely facades that make you feel that you are part of something ancient and quite profound in a way

I think it is indeed the best university I've taught at

We've got the nicest surgery facilities I've ever seen in Europe

Our education facilities are wonderful, huge investment in our researching facilities

There's an excellent infrastructure, many scientific departments who can collaborate in an interdisciplinary way

The University of Glasgow also has a field station on Loch Lomond site

The new facility contains mostly research laboratories, but also access to some of the most fantastic field sites that we have in Scotland

People work extremely hard, and there is very much a feeling of a team working together

Very stimulating classroom situations to be teaching in

Because it's big, and because it's prestigious, and because it's international, you can develop in a whole number of different directions

The career opportunities are excellent. The reason for that I think is because it's such a large comprehensive institution, with a strong sense of direction about where it's going

Well the great thing about being an academic is you have control over your time and in many ways no one day is like the other

And that can only really come with a top 20 university

Most of the students are getting taught by people who really know their subject who are well respected about it

It's nice to be a part of it

A fantastic place, in short

You've seen the range of people that we've got here, and the calibre of the people, and I think you've got some idea of the atmosphere at work

Glasgow University in one word…

Ambitious

Thriving

Enterprising

Fantastic

Dynamic

Scholarly

Vibrant

It's a great place
