Staffordshire University is investing in a major research initiative and we’re looking for outstanding individuals to join us. It is an exciting time to be at Staffordshire University, with a multi-million-pound commitment to develop three world-leading Research Institutes around the common theme of “Wellbeing”.

Up to 30 fully and partially funded, full-time PhD studentships are available across the following interdisciplinary research institutes and their constituent centres:

Institute for Individual and Cultural Wellbeing
  • Behaviour, Performance and Social Interaction Health
  • Behaviour Change and Social Care
  • Contemporary and Creative Practice
Institute for Economic and Societal Wellbeing
  • Business Research and Developing Economies
  • Critical Politics and Society Research
  • Education Policy, Schools and Practice
Institute for Technological and Environmental Wellbeing
  • Biomedical Science and Technologies
  • Archaeology, Geography, and Forensic Science
  • Game Design and Applied Computing
  • Engineering, Energy and Communication Technologies
The research institutes are purposely broad in scope and we welcome applications relevant to the areas outlined.

Funding and eligibility

Applications are welcome from qualified UK, EU and international students. All these studentship opportunities are based at our campus in Stoke-on-Trent.

Successful applicants will receive a fee waiver to the value of Home/EU student PhD fees, with some receiving an additional full tax-free stipend of £14,296, and others a partial stipend of £5,000 for three years, subject to satisfactory progress.
