Welcome to Canterbury Christ Church University

Canterbury Christ Church University is a modern, multi-campus University which is making a positive and lasting difference to local and global communities.

Our University is a vibrant community of 15,000 students and nearly 2,000 staff studying and working in Canterbury, Medway and Tunbridge Wells. We are one of only a handful of universities in the UK to be situated in a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We are at the forefront of education, research and enterprise that supports the region’s economy, building on our heritage as a globally connected, dynamic and innovative University.

Our exciting transformation of our main city campus supports an ambitious expansion into new areas of engineering, technology, medicine and the creative arts. This includes the opening of new creative arts building in 2019, and a new £65m science, technology, health, engineering and medicine building in Canterbury in January 2021.

New courses and research in these areas are important to business and skills development in Kent and Medway. They also build on our reputation as a strong, well-established provider of teachers and health professionals in the UK.

These plans also include the opening a new Kent and Medway Medical School, a joint initiative between Canterbury Christ Church University and the University of Kent. The school will be the first medical school in Kent and Medway, providing medical education and research to develop the area’s health workforce and address the growing need for medical professionals.

Education and research

We want to do more than give our students a high-quality education. We work in partnership with them to ensure they graduate with an understanding of the challenges facing society and our world and have the skills, commitment and personal qualities needed to help address them.

Our academic staff are conducting world-leading and internationally excellent research which is having a big impact in health, culture, society and the environment and in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, nearly 90% of our submitted research was recognised as world-leading, internationally excellent or internationally recognised.

In summer 2017, we received a prestigious Silver rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework because we consistently exceed rigorous national quality requirements for UK higher education and deliver ‘high-quality teaching, learning and outcomes for our students’.
