2014/15 University of the Year

Edge Hill University is based on an award-winning campus near the market town of Ormskirk in Lancashire, close to the cities of Liverpool, Manchester and Preston.

We have been providing higher education for over 130 years, based on an ethos of opportunity through excellence which has been recognised by our students, staff and the wider higher education community through awards and accolades.

In 2014/2015 Edge Hill was awarded University of the Year by the Times Higher Education and was described as “a great success story … an institution that improves and impresses year after year”. The award recognised our outstanding achievements in student satisfaction, staff engagement, graduate employment and innovation, as well as the strengthening of our research profile, investment and growth.

The Good University Guide 2017 has seen Edge Hill rise ten places since last year to 58th out of 131 UK universities and in the top ten ‘modern universities. Edge Hill was also ranked in the top ten nationally for teaching quality, in the top quarter for satisfaction and scored above average for A-Level points and staff-student ratio.

Our community of nearly 20,000 students and over 3,000 staff also demonstrate high levels of satisfaction. Student satisfaction in 2016 has risen to record levels in the National Student Survey where Edge Hill has achieved equal fifth position amongst English universities and our highest ever scores, continuing an upward trend on last year’s record performance.

In our most recent 2015/16 staff survey Edge Hill University was rated a ‘good or excellent’ employer by 94% of staff – the highest percentage outcome we have seen. We are also in the Sunday Times Top 20 Best Places to Work in the Public Sector.

Continuing investment in our campus and facilities has seen even more student accommodation and a brand new Technology Hub for computing students completed this year.

Our vision for those that apply to work here is simple that staff are supported fully in all aspects of their working lives and that colleagues engage positively, working together for the future success of the University. To provide an environment where everyone feels able to participate, contribute, enjoy and influence their experience and where inclusive practices underpin all University activities.
