About University College Dublin
University College Dublin, which traces its origins to the Catholic University of Ireland founded in 1854 with John Henry Newman as its first Rector, has grown from its modest beginnings to a ten faculty institution with over 18,000 students. It is situated on a large modern campus about 4km to the south of the centre of Dublin.
We strive to achieve the highest standards in the advancement of knowledge through research and scholarly publications. We communicate that knowledge to successive generations of students through excellence in teaching. We also try to contribute, in as far as it is practicable, to the interest and development of the wider community, regional, national and international.
