Starting salary: £23,486
You will support the delivery of the Natura 2000 programme in Scottish inshore waters, particularly in relation to Special Areas of Conservation and support the conservation of the Marine Protected Area (MPA) provisions of the Scottish Marine Bill. You will further the work of SNH's Coastal and Marine Ecosystems and Use Unit (CMEU).
Main responsibilities will be to provide the national lead within the CMEU for work relating to implementation of the Habitats Directive in the marine environment and to represent SNH on the UK MPA Technical Group and the UK MPA Centre steering group; provide technical advice on implementation of the Habitats regulations in the marine environment; contribute to the work arising from the EC moderation process for marine SACs; analyse and interpret marine biodiversity data held by SNH to support the future development of MPAs; contribute to the general work of the CMEU.
It is essential that you have a degree in BSc in Life Sciences coupled with relevant post-graduate experience. You will have a sound understanding of the marine ecology, habitats and species of Scotland and of biodiversity conservation legislation, including the Natura 2000 programme. You must have excellent organisational skills, the ability to work to tight deadlines, strong interpersonal skills and proficient IT skills. A full valid UK driving licence or the ability to travel independently is required.
