UHI Millennium Institute (UHI) provides university-level education through a unique partnership of thirteen colleges and research institutions located throughout the Highlands & Islands. Designated as a higher education institution in April 2001, we are working together to create a fully established university.

The Department of Diabetes and Cardiovascular Science at the UHI Millennium Institute in Inverness, Scotland has recently established a Lipidomics Research Facility. The group is focussed on the application of advanced lipid profiling strategies to investigate human disease states with a specific interest in diabetes, cardiovascular disease, inflammation and oxidative stress.

A research technician is required to provide support for the analysis of lipids and related metabolites in biological samples. The successful candidate will have a strong background in mass spectrometry and will be familiar in the operation and routine maintenance of LC-MS and/or GC-MS platforms. Experience of lipid analysis would be an advantage.

Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Professor Phillip Whitfield (phil.whitfield@uhi.ac.uk) or Professor Ian Megson (ian.megson@uhi.ac.uk) with informal inquiries.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 31 March 2010 and interviews will be held at the Centre for Health Science in Inverness at a later date.

An application form and further details can be obtained via our website www.uhi.ac.uk/vacancies or from the Personnel Office at personnel@uhi.ac.uk or on 01463 279409.
