PhD opportunities in Ultrasonics
£18k-£20k pa net - Fixed term 3.5 years
Teddington, Middlesex
This is an exciting collaboration between the National Physical Laboratory and University College London on the optical and acoustic trapping and manipulation of microscopic gas bubbles, plus their use as micro-sensors. Two fully funded PhD studentships - one experimental and one theoretical - have been created for this brand new project.
Registered for a PhD at UCL, the experimental student in the Department of Physics, and the theoretical student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, both will work at the NPL in Teddington, so time will be divided between locations.
These three and a half year studentship opportunities commence late September 2010, with a stipend and fees at the UK and EU rates.
The NPL is one of the UK's leading science facilities and research centres. A world leading centre of excellence in developing and applying the most accurate standards, science and technology available, it occupies a unique position as the UK's National Measurement Institute, at the intersection of scientific discovery and real world application.
Its expertise and original research have underpinned quality of life, innovation and competitiveness for UK citizens and business for more than a century.
NPL is based in a unique research environment in pleasant surroundings on the edge of Bushy Park in South West London with a host of onsite facilities including a subsidised crèche, restaurant, and a lively sports and social club.
