Cancer Prevention Grants Manager

Do you have previous experience of working in the science research funding sectors? Are you passionate about progressing evidence based policy in cancer prevention?

We're looking for a proactive individual to;

  • Lead and develop the grant awards process for policy and advocacy based research in cancer prevention
  • To write key summary reports and secretariat support for committee members
  • Develop excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and play an integrated role in the Cancer Prevention department

It's known that 40% of all cancers diagnosed in the UK are attributed to lifestyle and environmental factors accounting for 142,000 cases. Smoking is the largest preventable factor with poor diet being second followed by obesity, alcohol, UV/Sun exposure, physical inactivity and finally preventable infections.

Here at Cancer Research UK, we believe in developing evidence based policy to influence policy makers in order to help us beat cancer. Within the Cancer Prevention Department we have a number of mechanisms through which such research is funded; the Tobacco Advisory Group (TAG); Policy Research Centre for Cancer Prevention (PRCP) and International Consortium for Action and Research on Tobacco (ICART) each priding itself on high quality peer reviewed studies. This role will be crucial to maintaining this high quality and ensure that there is standardisation with the approaches taken.

To join us, we're looking for an excellent communicator with;

  • Great writing skills and the ability to distil key information from reports
  • Ability to build key relationships with external stakeholders and grant applicants
  • Experience of using databases
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities, many with fixed deadlines
  • Experience in providing secretariat function at meetings

In return, you'll be part of a team which is a key focus in our new CRUK strategy. This role will provide an insight into establishing a new centre for policy research, carrying out and commissioning research and how research is translated to policy. The evidence generated will be used in the development of policies for cancer prevention and across the Policy & Information Directorate.
