Salary: £33,954 - £42,269 per annum

Public Health England (PHE) is an executive agency of the Department of Health providing; strategic leadership, research, advice and support for Government, local authorities and the NHS in the protection and improvement the nation’s health.

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest microbiology departments in United Kingdom. The Manchester Medical Microbiology Partnership (MMMP) is collaboration between Central Manchester Foundation Trust (CMFT) and PHE. The microbiology partnership provides comprehensive services and specialist services to a wide range of hospitals across the North West and beyond.

We are looking for the right individual to take on this Senior Scientist post within the Vaccine Evaluation Unit (VEU), Manchester Royal Infirmary. The post holder will be responsible and act as lead scientist for the day to day running of the Multiplex Serology and R&D Section in the VEU. He or she shall ensure laboratory assay performance and supervision of personnel is carried out to Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) standards and external contracts met. He or she will assist in strategic scientific research and development programmes within the Unit including the development of new specialised immunoassays. The post holder will contribute to the operations of the Unit to maintain an efficient service and provide advice on scientific and technical issues. He or she will maintain an area of highly specialised knowledge and take day to day responsibility for provision of scientific services in that area. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.

The successful applicant will possess a BSc Hons and PhD in an appropriate biological discipline.

We are looking for an individual with good Information Technology skills with knowledge of specialised immunoassay analysis software and Microsoft Office in particular MS Access, who has good communication skills and who can work well as part of a team.

The laboratory is accredited by CPA; and we actively encourage CPD activities.
