Pearson is the awarding body for the BTEC Higher National Certificate (HNC) and Higher National Diploma (HND) qualifications. Higher National qualifications are the equivalent of year one (level 4) for the HNC and year two (level 5) for the HND, of a UK undergraduate degree.
Higher Nationals are popular both in the UK and internationally – with more than 100,000 students studying them at any given time. It is recognised that Higher Nationals are an important part of the higher education landscape – valued for their employer engagement, work relevance and ability to provide progression routes to degrees.
Pearson is currently undertaking a major review and redesign of the Higher Nationals – ensuring that they effectively meet the changing needs and expectations of industry and Higher Education. This work is being driven by the Higher Nationals Unit (HNU), who takes responsibility for the strategic oversight of Higher Nationals, including quality assurance, academic development, academic support and subject matter expertise.
