Leeds Clinical Trials Research Unit (CTRU) at the University of Leeds – recently voted University of the Year – is a UKCRC Registered trials unit, and one of the largest academic clinical trials units within the UK. Working with leading clinicians and other health professionals nationally the trials portfolio extends to over 100 active trials and related research totalling a value of over £100m. Our mission is to evaluate new treatments, interventions and technologies with particular emphasis on drug trials, surgical innovation, radiotherapy and complex interventions.

The CTRU team specialises in the design and delivery of innovative clinical trials with a primary focus on answering research questions which are relevant to patients and the health priorities of the NHS. Research areas are aligned with strengths in Leeds, the wider Yorkshire region and national priorities, and include Cancer, Mental Health, Older People, Skin, Musculoskeletal, Cardiovascular, and Diet and Obesity, encompassing innovative designs including adaptive trials, novel endpoints, continuous re-assessment models, biomarker driven designs, and open cohort design. Integrated methodological research includes investigation of surrogate endpoints, optimal early phase designs and response duration modelling.
