The University of Reading is seeking nine
exceptional academic candidates to be part of
the transformation of the core research themes
in our School of Biological Sciences.
The University of Reading is a research-intensive university
ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world.
The Research Excellence Framework 2014 (REF)
placed the University 27th in the UK by research
power and 19th by research intensity (out of 154
submitted institutions). Over the last year, we have
received more than £35m in external research
grant awards, from Research Councils, UK and EU
government bodies, charities and industry.
We are located in Berkshire and less than 30 minutes
from London by train. We have more than 17,000
students and employ nearly 4000 staff making us
one of the region’s biggest employers.
We deliver a world-class student experience,
research-led teaching and our graduate
employability record is excellent. The number of our
students going on to higher level study is well above
the national average.
ABOUT THE ROLES
The School of Biological Sciences at Reading has
grown substantially in strength over the past five
years as we seek to build on our international
reputation for research and teaching. Our 2014 REF
profile showed that 82% of our research was rated as
world-leading and internationally excellent.
To sustain this growth, we are recruiting nine
new academic members of staff to be part of the
transformation of our core research themes. Our
growth will not stop here. We expect to recruit further
research groups when we move to our new £50million
building and facilities, planned to open in 2018.

substantial record of research publication.
You will bring the skills and experience to develop
successful research collaborations, contribute to the
research and impact of the School and will be able to
secure competitive, external research funding.
