University of Reading - School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences
Supervisors: Dr Nick Holmes & Dr Carmel Houston - Price Project title: Taking action on food: The neural and behavioural effects of observing food-directed actions in children and adults
Understanding the neurobiology and psychology of food-directed behaviours may play a key role in fostering healthier lifestyles and in combating obesity. This Ph.D. project will adopt a multidisciplinary approach in identifying neural processes associated with food selection and actions towards foods in infants, children, and adults. The student will work with Drs. Holmes and Houston-Price (Psychology, University of Reading), and Dr. Bremner (Psychology, Goldsmiths, University of London), using methods from both developmental psychology (preferential looking, object-directed reaching, food selection), and cognitive neuroscience (transcranial magnetic stimulation, electroencephalography). This project requires a student highly motivated to master diverse experimental and analytical techniques.
