Research Scientist in Plant Genomics

Biotechnology Unit

Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre

This is an opportunity for a Research Scientist to join our Biotechnology Unit, and form part of a multidisciplinary team engaged in the study of natural rubber, with specific focus on genomics for crop improvement. This research is conducted in collaboration with the Biotechnology Group in the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia, as well as with research groups worldwide.

With a degree (preferably an MSc or higher) in biological sciences or in a related subject the successful candidate will be initially working on projects involving a large volume of gene expression analysis, SNP molecular marker development and Sanger sequencing. Ideally, the candidate should have hands-on experience in a range of molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, reverse transcription, qPCR, and sequencing, as well as in other general biotechnology methods.  Knowledge/training in statistical analysis and/or bioinformatics would be an advantage.

We are looking for a self-motivated enthusiastic individual, with excellent organisational and communication skills, who will be able to work both independently and as a part of a team, with excellent IT skills, including a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel.

As the Biotechnology Unit expands, there will be opportunities to contribute in the development of new projects in areas of proteomics and applied genomics.
