At UCLan we are dedicated to developing a culture of breakthrough research. We believe the best research can tackle the global challenges of the modern world.

This is a prestigious award aimed at academics of the highest quality who are already on a research path to being a world-leading researcher and have the requisite number of quality outputs to be submitted to the Research Excellence Framework 2014. The Fellow will work within the School of Language, Literature and International Studies, and will be expected:

  • To conduct and publish internationally leading research of 3* quality level and above.
  • To work closely with Professor Dawn Archer in developing/growing the area(s) of forensic linguistics, corpus linguistics, pragmatics and/or (critical) discourse analysis. Specialism(s) in the study of emotions, aggression, credibility and deception would be especially welcomed.
  • To (co-)teach on the new cross-disciplinary MSc in Emotions, Credibility and Deception.
  • To work as part of the wider Emotions, Credibility and Deception (ECD) team on related research projects and KT activities.

As the Fellowship develops, the successful candidate will be expected to undertake research student supervision and to apply for external grants in ways that ensure he/she is active in developing his/her own research in addition to working alongside Professor Archer and the existing ECD team.

The last Research Assessment Exercise rated 17 areas of our research as world leading or of international significance and, as holders of the prestigious HR Excellence in Research award, we are committed to supporting our research staff to achieve their goals.
