Head of the Indicators and Assessments Unit
Starting salary from £35,016 to £37,802 inclusive of London Weighting
The Institute of Zoology is a world-class independent research organisation, part of the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), and based at ZSL’s Regent’s Park site in central London. Applications are invited for the position of Head of the Indicators and Assessments Unit (IAU), available from 1 June 2013. The IAU is a joint initiative between the Institute of Zoology and ZSL Conservation Programmes, formed in 2006 to provide science to inform global policy for the Convention on Biological Diversity 2020 strategic plan. Its current projects include providing scientific and data input for the Sampled Red List Index, Living Planet Index and Wildlife Picture Index, and in supporting the production of National Red Lists. The Unit currently comprises a PDRA, a PGRA, an administrator and a number of interns (http://www.zsl.org/science/research-projects/indicators-assessments/).
The Head of IAU will be a scientist with strong analytical and management skills with sound postdoctoral experience. They will be expected to oversee and develop the work of the IAU, to utilise the databases compiled by IAU to generate world-class scientific publications as well as key reports and policy documents, to work with numerous partner and collaborating organisations, to undertake administrative tasks and fundraising duties, and to engage with potential donors and sponsor organisations to help support the work of the IAU. The appointment will be for 3 years in the first instance, with the potential for renewal in the event that performance targets are met.
