The University of Reading has recently created an exciting new School of Politics, Economics and International Relations in order to promote research and teaching across these disciplines, with a particular emphasis on public policy research. As part of its programme of continued planned expansion, the University is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Economics, who would contribute the development of its research and teaching programmes. The Department of Economics, located within the School, currently has expertise in public finance, macroeconomic policy, banking and financial regulation, housing and urban policy, environmental economics, health, education, behavioural economics, institutions, international development, poverty and segregation, and wishes to promote these areas further and expand into related fields.       

The successful applicants for the Lecturer position will demonstrate a strong potential for publishing in leading international peer-reviewed academic journals and for developing independent research agendas which are capable of attracting external research funding. They will develop research in the area of Applied Microeconomics, as the part of the Department’s increasing investment in a wider area of Public Policy. They will also be expected to teach on the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Economics, according to the current needs and supervise doctoral students.

The Department of Economics is an integral part of the School of Politics, Economics and International Relations, and has strong links in research and teaching with other Departments and Schools across the University. The Department has an internationally recognised academic reputation, with a particular focus on interdisciplinary research and policy applications.

You will have:

  • A PhD or equivalent in Economics
  • Research experience, with the ability to work in multidisciplinary research groups to conduct research leading to significant societal and economic impact
  • Specialist knowledge in one or more areas of Economics, and broad knowledge in a variety of sub-fields in Economics sufficient to teach outside your specialist expertise
  • Experience teaching in Higher Education
  • The ability to publish in leading international peer reviewed academic journals
  • The ability to secure external research funding
