University of Edinburgh -Roslin Institute
Maternity Cover
£25,504 - £29,541
An opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant to join the world famous Roslin Institute. You will augment the Toolbox facility that develops reagents and tools to study biology in livestock species, in particular to address the acute shortage of veterinary immunology reagents in the first instance. You will also have responsibility for the maintenance and efficient running of flow cytometric analysis provision in the Institute, providing training as required. The post will require a skilled RA who is experienced in cloning cDNAs, expressing recombinant proteins, generating mAbs and characterising them as appropriate.
The Institute’s Toolbox Steering Committee will channel requests from scientists across the Institute and specific reagents will be made and priorities set. The committee will set targets and review progress monthly, providing a report to the Institute Science Management Group every six months.
You will have a University degree in an area of biological or health sciences and knowledge of general laboratory procedures. Extensive immunological and molecular biological skills are essential. Flow Cytometry skills are desirable, but appropriate training will be provided.
Ideally you will have experience of working on the biology of livestock species and have experience in maintaining databases and websites.
No guarantee of extension of appointment can be made at this time, but the ambition is to grow the facility to create additional vacancies in the future
