Job Summary: The School of Geosciences is one of three Schools within the College of Physical Sciences. The School comprises the disciplines of Geology & Petroleum Geology, Geography and Archaeology. Geology at Aberdeen is experiencing a period of dynamic growth in both the student body and the academic staff. This is underpinned by diverse and active research successes which drive our teaching, and by curriculum reform. To support a revised Geology & Petroleum Geology programmes, we wish to make a fixed term appointment to Teaching Fellow in Geology & Petroleum Geology. 

This post will support teaching in Geology & Petroleum Geology. Duties will include:

• Coordinating, planning, delivering, and assessing courses at various levels (classroom and field based)

• Providing guidance and training to demonstrators

• Liaising with support staff

• Monitoring student attendance and providing student support

• Supervising student projects

• Developing course materials, exercises and web-based learning materials

• Assisting with outreach and student recruitment activities

There will also be a requirement to perform teaching-related administrative duties as required by the Head of Discipline.

You should hold a PhD in Geology or related subject together with other significant relevant experience, and ideally have experience of teaching Geology/Petroleum Geology in a Higher Education environment. As this post is intended to underpin expansion in the undergraduate body within the Department of Geology & Petroleum Geology it will be offered for a period of two years.

Salary will be at the appropriate point of the Grade 6 salary scale (£30,424 - £36,298 per annum) with placement according to qualifications and experience.
