AHRC PhD Studentship in Creative Writing

Applications are invited by the Graduate School of Arts and Humanities at Bangor University for an AHRC PhD Studentship in Creative Writing beginning on 30th September 2013.
We welcome applications from writers wishing to undertake practice-based research in ONE of the following three areas:
Novel: We welcome proposals focused on a creating a work of literary fiction with an emphasis on cross-cultural encounter.
Poetry: We welcome creative projects that engage with the broad context of experimental poetry and/or engage innovatively with the interface between ‘original’ writing and translation.
Screenwriting: We welcome projects that explore both the practice and theory of screenwriting, including an engagement with authorship and narratology, as well as the relationship between screenwriter and source material in the writing of the adapted screenplay.
Creative Writing at Bangor University is taught both by the School of English and the School of Creative Studies and Media, offering a wide variety of approaches. You will be supervised by a team of enthusiastic and experienced writers and academics with a recognised track record of publications. Regular research events in the College of Arts and Humanities include seminars organised by postgraduate students where they present papers on their work. Frequent visits by practising writers bring diverse perspectives to a thriving creative culture. Postgraduate students are encouraged to speak at international conferences, participate in local and regional literary events, and publish in various contexts.
Eligibility
Applicants should hold a distinguished academic record, including a Bachelor Degree (or equivalent) and preferably also the award of, or current study for, a Masters degree and/or a relevant publishing record.
Full-time Doctoral students who qualify for the full AHRC studentship will have their tuition fees paid for and will receive a stipend of £13,726. AHRC awards are open to UK and to EU applicants. Application Procedure
The application deadline is Monday 3rd June 2013 and interviews will be held in July. Applicants must apply using the University's Postgraduate On-Line Application Form available by clicking 'Apply' below.
Please supply all the relevant supporting documents requested on the on-line application form electronically, including a research proposal (max. 1000 words) detailing:
- Relevant writing experience and research skills (including, for example, a brief description of your university programme of study to date);
- The main focus of postgraduate interest, research plans and an understanding of the challenges ahead;
- Whether or not you are applying to other institutions with an AHRC BGP (if so, please state the name of the institution or institutions).
