We are seeking a talented and highly motivated post-doctoral researcher to join the TALISMAN node of the Economic and Social Research Council’s National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM – see http://www.ncrm.ac.uk/). The focus of TALISMAN is on geospatial data analysis and simulation and the purpose of this role is to work on the development of tools which can simulate social, demographic and economic aspects of customer behaviour and provision of a wide variety of products and services.
You will be involved in the repurposing of some existing computer software and algorithms, further development of these techniques, the creation of exemplars using secondary datasets and working alongside third party users from business and government organisations as well as academia. You will also be involved in preparing and delivering appropriate materials for the delivery of training.
You will hold or be very close to obtaining a PhD in Geography or a related discipline and have skills and experience in the analysis of spatial data and in the manipulation of spatial data using Geographical Information Systems (GIS). You will have the ability to write high quality research papers and documents and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Some programming expertise in Java, C, or a similar language would be advantageous.
