The Disability Advisory Service is seeking a dynamic highly motivated Specialist Tutor to teach academic related study skills strategies to students with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs).
The Specialist Specific Learning Difficulty SpLD Tutor will design and deliver academic related study skills support through specialist teaching of study strategies, both on a one to one basis and in small groups. S/he will also undertake screenings for SpLD indicators.
The post holder will be qualified to degree level with a relevant teaching qualification, and hold a recognised certificate in teaching and supporting students with specific learning difficulties; preferably accredited by the BDA. Together with the Specialist SpLD Tutor/Assessor, the post holder will provide support for students with a variety of SpLDs, including dyslexia, dyspraxia, and AD[H]D.
In conjunction with the Head of the Disability Advisory Service and the Specialist SpLD Tutor/Assessor, s/he will promote awareness and understanding of dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties across the College. In addition, the post holder will have special responsibility for developing study skills support to meet the needs of international students, including those who may be unaware of their specific learning difficulties. S/he will also be instrumental in developing study materials specifically aimed at students with specific learning difficulties, and English as a second language. The international student group includes students from the EU. The post holder will be based within the Disability Advisory Service on the South Kensington campus, but may be required to provide support at any of our Imperial College campuses.
