Research Fellow: Plant Molecular Biologist/Virologist

The Natural Resources Institute (NRI) (www.nri.org) is an internationally renowned multi-disciplinary centre of the University of Greenwich that undertakes research, consultancy and training to support sustainable development, food security, economic growth and poverty reduction in developing countries. 

An opportunity has arisen for scientists with a background in molecular biology and biological sciences, and having relevant experience and vision to work with a small team of natural scientists to deliver research for the ‘Development of On-farm Robust Diagnostic Toolkits for Yam Virus Diseases’, a 3 year grant funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. 

The successful candidate will join the Agriculture, Health and Environment Department, which has a well-established group working on many aspects of plant protection, and is particularly concerned with applying scientific knowledge for reducing crop losses.  You will have a PhD, proven experience in molecular biology, biotechnology or plant virology, and a good record of scientific publication.  The positions will involve short-term overseas travel.

The post is for 3 years, with the possibility of extension subject to funding.
