The Department of Media Arts and Communication is part of the 'Faculty of Arts, Computing, Engineering and Sciences at Sheffield Hallam University. We are a multi-disciplinary, enthusiastic team with expertise in broadcast and print journalism, sport reporting and research, located at the University's City Campus in the midst of Sheffield's vibrant Cultural Industries Quarter. We actively maintain strong links to industry and professional bodies as well as local agencies. Around 35,500 students are enrolled at Sheffield Hallam, with 4000 staff whose research and business ideas contribute to the economic and social development of both our region and the UK as a whole.

Our BA (Hons) Journalism course is currently seeking accreditation from the Periodicals Training Council (PTC) and you would be expected to play a major role in the delivery of the magazine/feature writing pathway which forms part of the course.

We're looking for an experienced and highly motivated professional, ready to teach and supervise students, contribute to curriculum development and take part in other scholarly activities. We're interested in individuals who are able to operate effectively within the university environment whilst also demonstrating the ability to connect with external partners and businesses. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential for this post, both when working with colleagues and partners and liaising with students.

You will have significant experience of working in the journalism industry with extensive senior magazine brand experience, preferably as an editor or editorial director. You will also have higher education teaching experience, with the ability to inspire and motivate students while promoting learning in a real world context.

Professional experience and qualifications in journalism are desirable together with a post-graduate degree and a PG Cert /Higher Education Academy (HEA) teaching qualification - although if you don't have this you may commit to completing it as part of the appointment process.
