Sustainability Associate(Design and Construction)

The Role
The role initially requires the evaluation of two years of recently collected data, and a significant body of work relating to the built environment which has been collected during the first phase of the project. A review of this information is required in order to ascertain which elements are key in developing and embedding sustainability into the mspace group. An essential component of this role will also be the development and evaluation of automated and intelligent systems and controls in order to assess the actual performance of state of the art carbon reducing systems in case study buildings. This role requires a professional, dynamic and motivated candidate, someone with suitable and relevant academic qualifications and post graduate experience in a relevant technical discipline. Both academic and company supervision is provided, but it is expected that the candidate will have the knowledge, experience and drive to set their own agenda and be self-managed for a significant amount of the time. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a significant interest in sustainability matters relating to design, construction and use of buildings. They will possess a high level of self-motivation and organisational skills and have the ability to work as part of a team whilst being self-sufficient and proactive. The candidate will have a first degree, minimum 2:1, together with a Postgraduate qualification in an appropriate discipline.
The Person
It is expected that the candidate will have strong research skills, and a desire to develop these further. The position comes with a fee-funded PhD studentship which will relate directly to the work carried out during this project, although some conditions apply. There is the potential to develop a permanent position with the company after project completion. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to develop and embed expertise and processes in sustainable design, construction and Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) across the mspace group of companies, supported by the expertise and equipment in ArchiLab.
Further Information
This is a fixed term contract from 01/07/2013 to 31/01/2015.
Although employed by Kingston University, you will be located at Mspace Group Limited either in Leatherhead and/or Teddington. Shortlisted candidates will be expected to attend an Assessment Centre including interview in Leatherhead on the 5th or 6th June 2013.
