The post is integral to the successful delivery of a large programme of crop pathology laboratory, glasshouse and field experiment and trials and to the delivery of services in the SRUC Crop Clinic. The successful candidate will provide support to researchers and other technical staff across the Crop and Soil Systems Research Group and play a key role in maintaining a substantial crop pathology and agronomy programme. The post will include crop field trial maintenance, crop assessments and pest, weed and disease identifications as part of the delivery on an annual field trial programmes which include industry, levy board and Scottish Government funded trials. Additional duties will include the scheduling and processing crop clinic samples for clubroot and nematode analysis, nematode identification and processing of soils and plant samples for DNA extraction and characterisation.
The post-holder will perform additional duties as directed from time to time by the Line Manager. The post holder must use their initiative in the conduct of their work, and apply sound judgement at all times to ensure that they conduct themselves within the framework of SRUC regulations and procedures. Applicants must normally hold a UK honours degree or equivalent, in a relevant discipline e.g. plant biology or agricultural sciences) together with being a UK citizen or UK resident for at least three years.
The salary will be in the region of £18,475 - £21,500 per annum.
