Al Khor International School: School Improvement Project (Part-time post for three months, full-time post for six months)
The Faculty of Education based in central Cambridge is looking for a Research Associate to plan and implement a school improvement intervention at Al Khor International School in Qatar, studying the efficacy of the intervention in response to defined research questions. The position is tenable part-time (0.2fte) from 1 October 2013 - 31 December 2013 in Cambridge, and full-time from 1 January 2014 - 30 June 2014 in Qatar. Our successful candidate will have a key role in coordinating and managing the research project, dealing with both internal and external operations, as well as drafting materials and liaising between the partners. In collaboration with senior academics at the Faculty of Education, and with senior leaders at AKIS, you will participate in and respond to the school improvement audit; work with Cambridge colleagues to plan an intervention, identifying the main research questions to explore the intervention; you will construct a mixed methods research design approach; and coordinate the production of research papers and reports.
Essential skills and qualities include a University level of education, with a doctorate in an Education or a related social science discipline; experience of academic life, working as a Research Assistant or Research Associate on appropriate projects; excellent organisational and administrative skills; an ability to organise your own time; good presentation skills and experience in conducting professional development workshops for teachers; an ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing with a wide range of people; cultural sensitivity; excellent research skills; excellent planning skills; good IT skills and knowledge; the ability to have or develop quickly an understanding of the work being initiated, and understand its significance to AKIS and to the Faculty; a high level of flexibility: preparedness to handle varied data, people, situations and role demands; and the ability to travel to, and reside in, Qatar for a period of six months. Experience of international education; some knowledge of the Middle East and of Qatar, and Qatari education in particular; and knowledge of educational developments in Middle-Eastern countries would also be welcomed.
