Integrated Environmental Solutions

Location: Glasgow or Dublin

The Company: Integrated Environmental Solutions Ltd (IES) develops the <Virtual Environment>, the world leading building simulation software which enables clients to design high quality and innovative buildings whilst minimising the impact on the environment. The <Virtual Environment> is the only tool which allows building designers to simulate the full performance of their design.

Due to a number of successful European FP7 grant-funded project bids, we are recruiting for R & D Consultants to join our rapidly expanding Research and Development Division. IES currently has 4 EU projects and 1 SMART Scotland project running with 9 more EU projects due to start before the end of the year.  Topics cover software tools for building retrofit and real-time control of buildings, new building envelope solutions for improved energy performance, masterplanning tools for cities and districts and ICT and energy management tools for buildings and districts.  The projects involve collaboration with companies across the EU in many industries in both engineering and ICT sectors. 

The Role:
The R & D Consultants will carry out work on R & D projects, to include:

  • research into product under development
  • contributing to brainstorming for product under development
  • modelling of test buildings for demonstration
  • application of project results to test buildings
  • testing of developed product
  • report writing for project deliverables.

Additionally, the role will offer the following opportunities:

  • State of the art research for new proposals being submitted
  • State of the art research for new products, concepts and ideas proposed for development
  • Market research for new products, concepts and ideas proposed for development
  • Writing internal white papers on state of the art and market research
  • Writing conference and journal papers.

The Candidate: 

  • Degree in engineering or building physics (mandatory)
  • Higher level diploma, Masters or PhD in engineering or building physics (desirable)
  • Experience and expertise to use IES modelling software or similar
  • Lateral thinking ability
  • Aptitude for research and persistence mind-set
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Confident, assertive communicator, able to gain co-operation from clients, internal staff and external partners
