The level of appointment is either at the level of full Professor or Associate Professor.
Duties:
- Develop a strategic framework aimed at strengthening cancer-related research, training and service activities in Africa;
- develop and implement a programme of interdisciplinary and interprofessional research;
- facilitate the translation of research findings into policy and practice, focused on improving preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative strategies;
- develop and implement relevant capacity building and/or training activities in the field;
- develop relevant collaborations nationally, regionally and globally;
- spearhead efforts to raise funds for cancer research.
The successful candidate will be expected to drive her/his own research activities at SU, in tandem with the above duties.
Requirements:
- PhD degree or equivalent qualification (in cancer or a related field);
- international recognition as a cancer researcher;
- management experience in an academic/research environment, as well as project management skills;
- strong leadership, as well as networking and communication skills;
- previous involvement in research capacity building and/or training activities in the field of cancer;
- proven ability to procure funding.
Recommendations:
- Experience in organising scientific and educational activities in the field of cancer;
- collaboration with leading African and other international cancer organisations;
- an interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving;
- experience in liaising with high-level stakeholders in government as well as professional boards (preferably at national and international level).
