The Rendel Chair in English
Aberystwyth University -Department of English and Creative Writing
Professor: Salary will be made on the Professorial pay banding
The Department of English and Creative Writing invites applications from candidates of excellence for the distinguished Rendel Chair in English. This is a full-time post, from 1 September 2013, in any field of English literary studies; candidates should note that an expertise in Romanticism and/or nineteenth-century literature may well be an advantage.
Endowed in 1914, the Chair perpetuates ‘the memory of the late president’ of Aberystwyth, Stuart (Baron) Rendel (1834–1913), the MP for Montgomeryshire who became one of the institution’s most articulate advocates. The Department is seeking an experienced teacher and researcher of international reputation to enhance its REF2014 profile, to engage in the full range of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to participate fully in all aspects of the department’s thriving culture. The Rendel Chair carries with it an additional stipend of £2000 per annum, which can be used to enhance the work and impact of the Rendel Professor in ways appropriate to the successful candidate’s profile, and to the wider strategic aims of the department.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic research-led department whose curriculum covers all periods of English literary production. From 1 August 2013, the department will enter a new alignment as an independent entity within the Institute of Literature, Languages and the Creative Arts.
