Editor for Research Summaries

Institute of Education, University of London -Marketing, Communications and Development Department

Annual salary will be in the range £30,424 - £36,298 plus £2,323 London Allowance

This full-time post is available immediately until 23 December 2013

Research summaries are short descriptions of significant research findings, based on the wide range of research projects carried out by IOE researchers. They are being produced for future use on the IOE’s website and in other marketing material to communicate with non-academic audiences, such as educational practitioners, students, journalists, policy-makers and interested members of the public. The intention is to promote awareness of the IOE’s research undertaken in the past and in the present.

Your main function, working with two other editors for research summaries and the Assistant Director for Research Impact, is to support this development by working with academic researchers, teams, centres, departments and faculties to select topics, hone key findings, and to draft and edit the final texts of research summaries.

We are looking for someone who has excellent writing skills and experience of writing about research across a range of print and electronic media. You will be able to understand complex issues/academic research in education, and to translate them into accessible texts. In addition to possessing excellent writing skills, you will have strong, interpersonal skills and multi-task to tight deadlines. Experience of working in the Higher Education sector would be an advantage.
