Job Summary
This post offers an exciting opportunity to work within a highly experienced B cell biology research team to study the changes in B cell development that occur with age. Immune systems of older people are less able to respond to pathogen challenge and are more likely to carry autoreactive antibodies. A restricted B cell repertoire correlates with ill health in the older person, and there are age-related differences in post-challenge responses to pneumococcal and flu vaccines. This will be investigated using high throughput immunoglobulin repertoire analysis with antibody cloning and expression (Gibson et al. Ageing Cell 2009 Ageing Cell 8:18-25; Wu et al Blood 2010 116: 1070-1078; Front. Immun. 2012 3:193). We are located on Guy’s campus in the Programme of Infection and Immunity
Job Details
The project is suited to a postgraduate immunologist with a strong interest in B cell biology. The successful candidates will be highly motivated and well organised with experience in managing complex laboratory projects and communicating effectively with other scientists and students. Experience in molecular techniques and bioinformatics will be an advantage.
