The University of Cambridge is working alongside Rolls-Royce plc. to develop new alloys for high temperature service within gas turbine engines. As part of this initiative we are now seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy (http://www.msm.cam.ac.uk/) to evaluate several novel alloys and investigate alternative systems. 

The postholder will be required to work effectively in close collaboration with Rolls-Royce and other industrial partners to advance the materials technologies being developed. They must be able to take the initiative and lead their own research as well as engage with and support the research of other group members. In addition, the successful candidate will liaise directly with technical staff at Rolls-Royce plc. and be responsible for communicating the findings of their research.

Applicants must have:

· A PhD in Materials Science, or must have submitted by the closing date for applications.

· Experience of metallurgical microstructural characterisation including metallography, scanning & transmission electron microscopy.

· Experience of thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).

· Experience of high temperature mechanical testing.

· Experience of X-ray diffraction for phase analysis.

· Published (or have submitted) papers or patents on alloys, ideally on high temperature metallic and intermetallic materials.

· Have previously presented the findings of their research at international conferences.

· The ability and desire to work in collaboration with industrial organisations.

· Experience of computer programming or scripting would also be advantageous.
