Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to carry out a research project funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council to examine dysfunction of brain endothelium in ageing. The project is entirely based at the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN) (http://sitran.dept.shef.ac.uk), and will be within a group interested in brain ageing and dementia. The study is also part of a close collaboration with the Open University, and takes an integrated approach using human tissue and models.
You should be qualified to PhD level (or equivalent) in Neuroscience or Ageing Sciences and have experience and interest in translational research, particularly in neurodegeneration. Post-doctoral level experience will be an advantage. You will use microarray-based techniques to assess microRNAs in endothelial cell ageing and their effects on the blood brain barrier. You will have good practical experience of molecular techniques and will contribute to the work of an internationally recognised research group.
