The UK Research Office (UKRO) is the UK's leading information and advice service on European Union funding for research and higher education. Established in 1984 and located in Brussels, UKRO is jointly funded by the seven UK Research Councils and receives subscriptions from almost 140 research organisations, principally in the UK.
Applications are invited for the post of European Advisor at the UK Research Office (UKRO) in Brussels.
Successful candidates will join a small and dynamic team that provides information and advice on EU research, innovation and higher education programmes and policies to UK researcher organisations. Core duties include the interpretation and dissemination of relevant information, and the provision of high-quality advice to the UK research community. Development of effective contacts with European Commission officials and UK organisations with a role in research policy is a key element of the job. The ideal candidates will be graduates with a good understanding of EU institutions and EU funding for research and higher education, and of the UK research base. Excellent communication, IT and inter-personal skills are required. Flexibility and the ability to balance priorities and to self-motivate whilst working within a team are essential. Experience of interacting with research institutions and policy makers, and of providing a service to a range of customers, would be an advantage.
The selected candidates will be employed by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). In addition to a starting salary of £26,610 (with eventual progression to £29,566) BBSRC also offers tax free allowances for living in Brussels including a cost of living allowance (currently £417 pcm) and provision for accommodation (up to £950 pcm).
