UCL EngD in Operational vs. Designed Performance in Workplace Buildings

Applications are invited for an EPSRC funded EngD studentship (4 years) to research Operational vs. Designed Performance in Workplace Buildings: Development of Visualisation Design Tools Utilizing Performance Data and Simulation. This work will draw together the link between energy modelling in buildings and validating modelling techniques and outputs based on real world data.

UCL is one of the UK’s premier universities and is currently ranked 4th in the world (QS World University Rankings). The industrial co-sponsor, Buro Happold, is an international interdisciplinary engineering firm for the built environment responsible for many of London’s most iconic buildings ranging from stadia and museums to office and university buildings.

A successful candidate will be based at the Bartlett and Buro Happold offices in London, and will be supervised jointly by Dr Dejan Mumovic (UCL Bartlett School of Graduate Studies/UCL Energy Institute),Alasdair Young (Buro Happold, Industrial supervisor) and Dr Rokia Raslan (UCL Bartlett School of Graduate Studies/UCL Energy Institute).

The studentship will cover tuition fees and a tax-free maintenance stipend (£18,500/annum for EngD). Due to funding restrictions applicants must be either a British passport holder or an EU passport holder with either 3 years residency in the UK, or being in full time employment in the UK.

The closing date for applications will initially be 15th June 2013 with a view to starting the project at the beginning of September 2013. Interviews will be held w/c 17th June 2013.
