Salary (in the range E24 to E27 (£25,504 to £27,854) depending on experience

The College wishes to recruit an Associate Research Fellow to support the work of Professor Chris Perry. This NERC funded post is available from 1st September 2013 for 42 months. The successful applicant will work on a project that aims to quantify the nature and significance of fish-derived carbonate sediment production across tropical to cool temperate marine carbonate provinces, and to utilise this data to model the production of different sedimentary carbonate phases at regional and global scales.

The post holder will be required to undertake a number of field sampling campaigns, focused on the collection of fish-derived carbonates and shallow marine sediments, as well as undertaking an extensive programme of sample analysis using Scanning Electron Microscopy and associated analytical techniques. The applicant will also be expected to undertake regional and global scale modelling to improve understanding of fish carbonate contributions to the marine carbon cycle. The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will possess (or be about to receive) a relevant PhD and, ideally, have combined skills in carbonate sedimentary geology and fish biology. They should also be able to: i) demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within the established research programme, and ii) have relevant marine sedimentary research experience.

For further information please contact Professor Chris Perry, e-mail c.perry@ex.ac.uk or telephone (01392) 723334.

The starting salary will be in the range £25,504 to £27,854 (Grades E24 to E27), depending on qualifications and experience.

The closing date for completed applications is Wednesday 8th May 2013
