Stipendiary Lecturership in Classics

Michaelmas term 2013 and Hilary term 2014

Balliol College proposes, if a suitable candidate applies, to appoint a stipendiary six-hour Lecturer in Classics from 1 October 2013 to 15 March 2014.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach up to six hours per week to undergraduates in the School of Classics and Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, and will receive, in addition to the stipend of £12,260 pro rata for the period, certain common table rights.

The lecturer will be expected to teach Greek History, particularly archaic and classical history and to contribute to the teaching of Texts & Contexts. They should be prepared to teach the Thucydides and the West option for Classics Mods.; and if possible the paper on Athenian Democracy. Teaching in one Roman history paper may be available (though not essential to this post). The lecturer may be required to help with interviewing during Classics and CAAH admissions in Michaelmas term.
