Two research assistants are required to provide research support within the Centre for Sustainable Urban and Regional Futures (SURF), School of the Built Environment, to support work researching the governing of urban retrofit.

This is part of SURF’s ongoing work on the EPSRC-funded “URBAN RETROFIT” Re-Engineering the City 2020-2050: Urban Foresight and Transition Management project. Both posts are tenable for a period of 9 months. The post-holders will undertake a pre-defined programme of work comprising a range of duties, primarily including desk-based research on urban retrofit ‘alternatives’ and identification and review of secondary, policy and academic materials, report writing and management of research materials. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to undertake research support for other SURF staff that contributes to the development of SURF’s core agenda.

One of the roles will involve undertaking a programme of work on retrofit alternatives primarily in Greater Manchester.

The other role will involve undertaking reviews of alternative retrofit activities in five city-regions of the UK. The successful candidate for this second role should be prepared to undertake significant UK-based travel.

The post-holders will report directly to Dr Mike Hodson. SURF is led by Professor Tim May, supported by Drs Beth Perry and Mike Hodson as Associate Directors.
