Chair in Operations Management

Applications are invited for a Chair in Operations Management, (with a specialist interest in international standards) based in Swansea University Business School, within the College of Business, Economics and Law.

Salary on the Swansea University professorial scale.

The College of Business, Economics and Law is at the heart of the University’s strategic vision for the future and the Business School will play a crucial role within this.

The Business School intends to make a significant number of new academic appointments over the next three years, representing a substantial investment on the part of the College. In the last RAE over 50 per cent of the School’s outputs were considered as world leading or internationally excellent and the School is determined to improve on its performance in the next assessment. We are looking for dynamic, ambitious and inspiring academics to contribute to the continued development of the School in its pursuit of excellence in both teaching and research.

Appointments at Chair level will be expected to lead the development of research excellence and high quality teaching within the School. Candidates should have an extensive publication record in high quality, peer-reviewed journals; contribute to the REF entry of the School at the appropriate level for a research-led university, currently defined as a minimum of four 3-star ranked journal articles (according to the Association of Business School list and evidenced peer review); have an established record of substantial research income generation;  have supervised to completion doctoral students; and, have a wide experience of University teaching and scholarship at undergraduate, postgraduate and post-experience levels. The post holder will play a leading role in the development of research, teaching and knowledge transfer within the operations/supply chain management sub-grouping of the Operations Management and Entrepreneurship Group. The primary teaching responsibility for this post will be delivery of modules on international standards on the MSc Management and MBA programmes and modules in the area of Operations Management area. As such, the successful candidate will need to have a track record of implementing and auditing in both public and private sectors in the UK, and potentially overseas, a range of international standards (ISO, BSI and others) to speak with authority in this area. Relatedly, the candidate should be able to speak with authority (i.e. have published work, taught and hold practical experience) within the area of ‘world class’ operations and supply chain management.
