This is an exciting opportunity to join our teaching team on our MSc programmes in Environment and Sustainability and Climate Change Management based in the Department of Geography, Environment & Development Studies.
We are currently looking for 1 part-time fixed term Associate Lecturer A to teach the following 15 CATS Level 7 module from September 2013:
- Environmental Reporting and Management Systems
Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of the module, including assessing learning outcomes for IEMA Associate Membership. You will deliver teaching to Birkbeck students in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully and you will undertake all related course administrative duties as required.
This module aims to provide an overview of the key methods of environmental reporting.
The course meets for six three hour evening sessions from 6 - 9pm. It is expected that the module will run in the Spring term (January to March 2014).
Candidate Requirements
In addition to the job requirements outlined on the attached role profile the minimum requirements for selection are as follows:
- A first degree to a good standard in the subject area
- Professional experience of the subject matter taught in the module
- Experience of/or willingness to develop a wide range of teaching and assessment methods
- Demonstrably effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills across a range of relevant contexts
- A working knowledge of IT including word, excel, email and experience of/or willingness to use Moodle, Birkbeck's virtual learning environment
- Relevant teaching experience, ideally working with adult students within the HE/FE sector
- Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently as appropriate
- Willing to engage in reflective practice
Please note: Candidates will need to demonstrate competence or significant potential in all areas.
In addition it is desirable that candidates have:
- Postgraduate degree/s in a relevant area
- Significant experience of teaching adults from a wide range of backgrounds

Remuneration: Payment is based on an hourly rate dependent upon length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £54.03 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking in connection with the course. This Academic Year only there will be a further 14 hours of course development time paid at £21.61 per hour.
