Job Purpose

To work as a member of the International Student Support team ensuring the provision of specialised advice, information and support to international students both before and during their studies.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To provide specialist immigration advice to students and their families in compliance with OISC (Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner) standards and manage own advice and immigration caseload which will include extensions of leave to remain, guidance on immigration routes to work, entry clearance correction reports and other general immigration advice.
2. To work collaboratively the operation of the Home Office Student Batch Scheme providing students with an efficient service when extending their student visas.
3. To organise drop-in sessions offering students with simple enquiries a shorter alternative to a full appointment.
4. To deliver training and supervision to temporary staff engaged in basic Tier 4 application and document checking during the peak application periods August - September.
5.To provide information, support and guidance to international students on a wide range of social and welfare matters to improve the student experience and also to provide information and guidance to University staff, parents, spouses or sponsors of students when necessary.
6. To assist with the preparation and running of the September and January International Student Orientation Programmes and smaller orientation sessions at other times throughout the year ensuring that students are well prepared and informed.
7. To assist with the preparation of the International Student Handbook and other publications.
8. To deliver information sessions and workshops for international students to provide them with up to date and relevant information.
9. To provide advice and information via email to individuals as well as targeted groups of students and to maintain and develop customized email lists and databases.
10. To maintain and update knowledge of regulations and legislation affecting international students and participate in ongoing professional development in the international student welfare/advice field.
11. To assist with the organisation and management of International Student Support events.
12. To liaise with other services and departments within the University as well as cultivating links with appropriate agencies outside the University.
13. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Glasgow 2020 – A Global Vision

Terms & Conditions
Salary will be on the Management, Professional and Administrative Grade, level 7, £32,267 - £36,298 per annum.

New entrants to the University will be required to serve a probationary period of 6 months.

The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Universities’ Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available from the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits.
